About Me

EXPERIENCE MATTERS

Fraser 2018

I am a New York State-Licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice on New York's Upper East Side. I work with adults, teenagers, children, couples, and families during flexible early morning and early evening hours that are convenient for you. For over 30 years I have been providing psychological services in both Philadelphia and New York City in a wide range of settings. Outside of my private practice, I have worked in hospital outpatient and inpatient psychiatric units, elementary, middle and high school settings, and college counseling centers.

I am a 30-year member of the American Psychological Association and I am currently the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services outpatient clinic at Weill Cornell Medical College-Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. I train and supervise doctoral-level psychology students and psychiatry residents. I teach seminars in Individual Psychotherapy, Couples and Family Therapy, Group Therapy, Forensic Assessment, Neuropsychological Testing and Ethics.

I enjoy teaching and training and I consider them to be important aspects of my work as a psychologist. I have been a featured speaker on the topic of Compulsive Internet and Video Game Use at the New York State Psychological Association's Annual Convention in New York City. Twice I have been the recipient of the Weill Cornell Medical College Department of Psychiatry's Outstanding Teacher Award, and I am the past Chair of the Psychology Directors of New York State (PSYDNYS). In addition, to stay in tune with the latest developments in the field, I also attend weekly continuing education seminars.

In addition to psychotherapy and teaching, I also conduct forensic evaluations and provide court testimony on various psychological issues. I have served as an expert witness in the New York City Supreme Court. I find that this kind of work helps me to use another part of my brain, which is important for me to maintain a healthy balance as a psychologist.

Also, over the past several years I have focused increased attention on what is known in the field as "positive psychology." Many individuals use therapy very effectively to alleviate what can be considered "negative symptoms" (e.g., depression, phobias, anger). However, people often can also benefit from therapy to enhance their performance in certain areas, such as relationship building, public speaking, and sports.

I have worked with many dedicated professionals and athletes who want to make the most of their talents, but find that for some reason they are not realizing their full potential. I have worked with elite athletes at the Olympic, Professional, College and High School levels. I have been featured in ESPN Magazine, discussing the effects of anxiety on performance.

In addition to working with individuals and families, I also conduct team building seminars and retreats to assist organizations in strengthening communication, motivation and teamwork in the workplace. Helping organizations improve worker satisfaction and productivity by enhancing effective communication is another area in which I specialize.

As I hope you have gathered by reading this page, I enjoy many aspects of the field of psychology, and I am very interested in helping people understand themselves better, to feel better, and to achieve their fullest potential.
